Our Mission

Our mission is to accept and place Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherd into appropriate homes. We are first and foremost breed advocates only placing out sound, well rounded dogs into appropriate situations, whether that be an active companion home, sport home, or working opportunity. We will do our best to evaluate each dog in our care and determine that dog's appropriate placement.

We are committed to providing long standing support for our adopters, which includes, but not limited to, referrals for approved trainers, sport dog clubs, and veterinary clinics.

How it all began

Fueled by a love of the breed, we each have that one dog that got us started. MWDR's board have been working hard to save the dogs gotten by ill informed owners overwhelmed and unable to meet the needs of the dog before them. We have worked together under the radar helping dogs here and there and it was time to make it formal. Two of the three in the picture to the left were owner surrenders, unable to step up to many needs a Malinois or Dutch need to be fulfilled and be a good canine citizen.

We accept these Shepherds for who they are, powerful working dogs that need more than a walk around the neighborhood, day at daycare, or fetch at the park. For the ones that show performance and sport potential we work with area trainers to train them to become a part of law enforcement or even a competition sport dog. For those that just need an active home, a go getter up for running a few miles as a warm up to a longer stint, we find the best suited family.

It is important to get to know the dog in front of us, taking the time to understand who they are and how to best meet their needs prior to placement. We are helping preserve the Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherd, one dog at a time.
